WHY WIFI NETWORKS ARE NOT SAFE:
Difficult to protect
802.11 management and control protocol are not encrypted (even when using VPN) and are open for everyone.
Difficult to investigate
WiFi networks lack logging and recording and therefore attack trace and forensics do not exist.
This is why we invented WifiWall. WifiWall closes the security gap in the Office WiFi and secures the traveler Public WiFi connection.
Every corporate network uses Firewall, VPN server, Intrusion Detection and Prevention systems, etc. However, these tools are operating on top of TCP/IP and UDP communication. While these provide adequate security in wired networks, it’s not enough for the WiFi network.
WiFi management and control protocol, based on 802.11 frames, is not encrypted and is wide open for attackers. The FireWall, VPN, IDS, IPS, etc. work on top of TCP/IP and therefore not protecting from 802.11 attacks.
Every corporate network logs the TCP/IP communication. IT department uses big data algorithms, anomaly detection and behavior analysis to detect attacks and perform investigations after.
Wifi communication is public and open ‘in the air’, there is no logging of WiFi management communications, and therefore no anomaly detection is available.
Also, IT cannot investigate WiFi attacks properly leaving WiFi communication in the dark.
Since it's hard to detect and difficult to prevent, it becomes a preferred attack surface for the attacker.
Today, Wifi attackers have an advantage over the defenders when it comes to WiFi Attacks.
Many attacks started in the Wifi network, allowing the attacker to harvest supervisor credentials through one of the WiFi attack techniques and continue into the traditional wired network with a single step attack, creating a devastating light speed attack that leaves no trace behind.
All offices alike share a dire WiFi security problem. As they are stationary, prone to habit and hold extremely sensitive information (their company’s and their client’s), they are a valuable and very vulnerable target for WiFi attacks. As oppose to large enterprises, the SMB offices, Satellite & remote Offices and Home offices, lack the WiFi Control Systems which large IT department provide and manage.
